Koerschulte Group launches Germany’s first automated drone delivery service

On Wednesday, 21 February 2024, the Koerschulte Group launched Germany’s inaugural fully automated drone delivery service in Lüdenscheid.

This innovative venture, supported by HHLA Sky, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), oversees flight operations from its own integrated drone control centre.

After two years of intensive development, the first commercial drone delivery airline for B2B courier services using automated drones has taken flight. The Koerschulte Group secured the nation’s initial license for scheduled drone deliveries from the German Federal Office of Civil Aeronautics, enabling them to operate automatically in public spaces (SAIL III operating permission).

Under the supervision of HHLA Sky’s Integrated Control Center, equipped with advanced software for seamless process management and control, drone operations are conducted with utmost safety and scalability (Drones as a Service).

The first customer of this service is Hotset, a manufacturer of sensor and process control technology based in Lüdenscheid, Germany. Over the coming months, five additional flight routes are set to be established, facilitating the delivery of up to 80 parcels daily to customers across Lüdenscheid via automated drones.
