MSC Melissa has become the largest container vessel to ever sail the St. Lawrence River, calling earlier in July the Port of Montreal.
With a capacity of 6,730TEU and measuring 303.89 metres long and 40 metres wide, the Post-Panamax vessel docked at the Termont Montreal-operated Viau Terminal of the Canadian port before heading back to Europe.
“This ship’s arrival proves the agility of the Port of Montreal and its partners and shows how interested international shipping companies are in Montreal’s facilities,” commented President and Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Montreal, Martin Imbleau.
“The ability to accommodate Post-Panamax class vessels offers great potential as we prepare our expansion project in Contrecoeur,” he added.
