Largest container ship to call Indonesia docks at Jakarta terminal

The 16,000 TEU CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt has become the largest container vessel to call an Indonesian port after its arrival at PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) on 31 October.

This inaugural call of the 16,000 TEU boxship marks the first of the French carrier’s three 16,000 TEU series to call at JICT, a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo.

Facilitating the growing volume of trade between Indonesia and the United States, CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt is deployed on the CMA CGM Columbus JAX service which directly connects Jakarta with the US.

The JAX service delivers local products and manufactured goods such as paper, rubber, apparel, footwear and electronics from Indonesia to North America on a weekly basis, according to a statement.

“With the large CMA CGM vessel berthing at the JICT, it shows the commitment of the Pelindo Group in improving its port services. I hope that the arrival of this large vessel will further strengthen the connectivity of Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta with the international network of ports; and provide a smooth flow of exports from and imports to Indonesia,” commented Arif Suhartono, president director of Pelindo.
