Lianyungang facilitates shipments to Russian Far East

Lianyungang New Oriental International Terminals Co., Ltd, part of Cosco Shipping Ports, is working with Chinese freight forwarders to launch ad hoc container shipments to the Russian Far East.

The service caters to Chinese shippers who have difficulty securing shipping slots to the Russian Far East in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The first shipment saw 192 TEU of mineral cargoes being loaded onto the general cargo vessel, Shun Yue 19, operated by Dalian Sincere Nice International Ship Management. The vessel departed Lianyungang on 11 May and collected more cargoes in Qingdao and Busan before heading to Vostochny, being due to arrive on 27 May.

The next shipment is expected today (25 May).

Port authorities in Lianyungang hope that such services will open a new shipping channel for Lianyungang.

Lianyungang New Oriental said, “Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many customers are still facing difficulties in obtaining shipping services. We have been responding to customers’ requirements, connecting with the market, and striving to provide solutions to cargo owners. This service to the Russian Far East is not only a way for Lianyungang port and freight forwarders to meet shipping demand, but also an important measure to stabilise supply chains.”
