Long Beach Harbor Commission elects new President

The five-member panel, Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, that oversees the Port of Long Beach elected Steven Neal as President on 26 July.

While each July a President and two board officers are elected to serve one-year terms, the board also voted Sharon L. Weissman as Vice President and Bobby Olvera Jr. as Secretary.

Neal represented North Long Beach on the Long Beach City Council from 2010 to 2014. He is the senior pastor for LIFE Gospel Ministries and a co-founder of the Economic Policy Impact Center, a nonprofit agency working to advance economic opportunities for working families.

In addition, the new President of The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners is also Executive Director of the Long Beach Collective Association and has served on the boards of Long Beach Transit and the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network.

Neal thanked his fellow commissioners and stated that he is looking forward to working with his colleagues, staff, and Executive Director Mario Cordero “to ensure this port remains a top commercial gateway for decades to come.”
