Maersk announces Mombasa port delays

Maersk has published a customer advisory regarding its proactive actions about the ongoing challenges at the Port of Mombasa in Kenya.

In recent weeks, the Danish carrier has been facing berthing congestion due to higher-than-expected yard density and equipment constraints. As a result, vessel berthing and departure schedules have been impacted, leading to delays, according to the company’s announcement.

Additionally, vessel arrivals from Far East Asia are experiencing delays due to congestion in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Singapore. Maersk’s vessels on this route, originally scheduled to arrive on Thursday, are now expected to berth on Friday, with further ETA adjustments possible. This may, in turn, affect the timely discharge of import cargo, noted Maersk.

“As a result of these challenges, from time-to-time we may experience unexpected cuts and runs where we may not be able to accommodate all the containers as we strive to meet connections at the transshipment ports,” said Maersk in a statement.
