Maersk has decided to remove the port of Melbourne from the Southern Star service rotation, returning to its standard rotation.
Effective from mid-July, the updated Southern Star rotation will be Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia) – Singapore – Sydney (Australia) – Tauranga (New Zealand) – Napier (New Zealand) – Lyttleton (New Zealand) – Port Chalmers (New Zealand) – Tanjung Pelepas
The first vessel with updated routing is Rio Bravo scheduled to depart from Port Chalmers on 14 July.
“Our primary focus remains to minimise the impact to our customers by ensuring minimal disruption to your supply chain by offering alternative routings and coverage,” said Maersk in a statement.
The Danish carrier said existing and future New Zealand to Melbourne cargo (including transshipment to Southern Star) will be transhipped at Port Chalmers connecting to Polaris service, while existing and future export cargo from Melbourne will be offered via Greater Australia Connect or Dragon service.
