Maersk to apply Fuel Surcharge

On November 1st, Maersk announced the upcoming Inland Fuel Surcharge (IFS/EFS). In order to adequately prepare its customers Danish company informs them of the surcharge commencing on January 1st, 2019.

Surcharge Calculation
A surcharge of $20 USD per container will be applicable beginning January 1st, 2019. This charge is derived from weekly average fuel price published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) equating to a quarterly average of USD $3.31 per gallon.

This fuel surcharge is based off of $20 USD for every $0.10 USD incremental increase above the baseline fuel retail price of $3.20 USD per gallon.

Surcharge Applicability
This surcharge is a flat rate applicable to all equipment sizes to/from all US and Canada inland locations, and not applicable to local port drayage moves

The Inland Fuel Surcharge will not be applied should the fuel retail price quarterly average on the EIA website from the prior quarter be lower than $3.20 USD. When applicable, the Inland Fuel Surcharge will become effective the first day of each quarter: January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st.
