Maersk Line imposes $2b on Nigeria

Maesk Line imposes $2bn on Nigeria, other importers over fuel

Ahead of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) deadline, Maersk Line has said that importers using its giant containers to ferry goods to Nigeria will pay separately for fuel from 2020.

The amount, which is estimated at $2 billion, is being passed to Nigerian and other importers using the liner in Africa and other part of the world.

Also, the company estimated an extra fuel bill of $15 billion a year for the container shipping line.

The company took the decision because of the tougher environmental regulation standards ahead when prices are expected to surge.
