Maersk opens new distribution center in Arizona

A.P. Moller-Maersk has announced the opening of a new 13,935 m² distribution centre in Phoenix, Arizona.

This facility will support American Honda’s Powersports and Products division, enhancing its ability to serve its regional dealer network in the Southwestern United States. It will also provide warehousing and distribution services for recreational, utility, and outdoor equipment.

“Phoenix offers us excellent proximity to our dealer network, which enhances our ability to serve customers more efficiently. Maersk’s deep knowledge of our business and rapid execution in establishing the new location has helped us drive forward on key aspects of our regional business strategy,” stated John Stevens, director of Powersports Sales Operations at American Honda.

Previously, Honda serviced the Southwestern US from the Los Angeles area. Phoenix’s strong labour pool, affordable real estate, and robust rail and highway transportation networks make it an increasingly attractive alternative to Southern California for global businesses seeking to optimize their supply chains.

In addition, the Maersk Contract Logistics Team activated operations at the Phoenix site within 90 days of the December 2023 contract award. This swift activation involved locating the facility, finalizing the lease, and receiving the initial stock.

The distribution centre began operations in March 2024, offering a range of value-added services, including distribution coordination to Honda’s regional dealer network, return management, light assembly, and quality control.

The Phoenix distribution centre is Maersk’s third facility supporting Honda’s needs. Maersk has also established facilities in Shreveport, Los Angeles, in 2011, and Kansas City, Missouri, in 2020.
