Maersk Tema suffers pirate attack

Container vessel Maersk Tema suffered a pirate attack on 14 February 2020, when it was located 200 nautical miles west of Guinea. At the time of publication, the reported position of the vessel was in the Gulf of Guinea, en route to the Port of Lagos in Nigeria.

The container vessel Maersk Tema is owned and operated by the charter company Peter Döhle Schiffart and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM).

Responding to a Container News request, a Maersk spokesperson said that the Danish shipping company is monitoring the situation closely and has offered its full support to Peter Döhle Schiffart and Bernhard Schulte ship Management in this difficult situation.

“We can confirm that the BSM-managed vessel, Maersk Tema was approached by two skiffs in the Gulf of Guinea earlier today,” BSM stated. “The crew followed emergency protocol.”

“BSM has reported this incident to the Guinea Anti-Piracy Reporting Centre, and is working with all relevant maritime authorities in the region,” BSM added.
