A.P. Moller-Maersk will add a new 100,000 m² warehouse in Calamba, Laguna in the Philippines. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 9 November and the new facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The new warehouse is located an hour’s drive from Manila and is expected to be connected to the regional industrial center where major manufacturers operate.
The facility will be operated by Maersk’s newly established omnichannel-fulfillment team, following the successful acquisition of contract logistics company – LF Logistics.
The total area is equivalent to almost three times the size of LF Logistics’ current multi-service distribution centre in Rizal province and, according to Maersk, will further enhance its overall warehouse and distribution footprint in the Philippines.
The facility will have a storage capacity of up to 75,000 pallets, with distribution centre technologies such as pallet conveyors, automated sortation, put-to-light, yard management systems and track-and-trace capabilities.
The construction agreement to specifications has been signed with local contractor Precos, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Solid Group, Inc. which guarantees a 15-year lease.
“With combining LF Logistics’ strength in the Philippines and strong expertise in our omnichannel-fulfillment operations, we will extend the scope of our logistics offerings closer to the end-consumers,” commented Erry Hardianto, area managing director of Maersk.
He added, “Indonesia and Philippines Expanding the warehousing footprint and omnichannel-fulfilment competence is crucial to our strategic growth, and I’m very glad that we’ll make another step forward with this new facility.”
In addition, Maersk is seeking to build the first warehouse in the Philippines with Gold Certification in the LEED rating system.
