Maersk’s methanol ship docks at LA green APM Terminals Pier 400

Decarbonizing supply chains gains momentum as land and sea integrate, with “Green Corridors” enhancing global connections.

The arrival of Maersk’s revolutionary methanol-powered vessel at Los Angeles’ APM Terminals Pier 400 highlights the alignment of future-forward ships with cutting-edge terminals.

In addition, APM Terminals, participating in a pioneering electrification pilot across eight locations, is advancing towards its 2040 net zero goal.

The terminal’s upcoming deployment of fully electric Auto Straddle Carriers and significant emission reductions exemplify its commitment to sustainable cargo handling, complementing Maersk’s green initiatives at sea.

In interviews with journalists participating in the vessel’s name-giving celebrations, APM Terminals Pier 400 Managing Director, Jon Poelma commented, “As a critical node along the green corridor that is forming between Los Angeles and key cities in China, Pier 400 is one of the most environmentally advanced terminals in the United States. We are on track to achieve zero emissions in our operations ahead of the 2030 deadlines set forth in the Clean Air Action Plan.”
