The logistics firm Maritime Transport has agreed with the United Kindom’s port operator Peel Ports Group for the expansion of its transport depot at the Port of Liverpool, on a 30-year lease, extending the geographical reach of the UK port further into the midlands.
“This significant investment, which marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Peel Ports, heralds an exciting time for the company in terms of our growth,” stated John Williams, group executive chairman of Maritime Transport.
The facility is estimated to be expanded from 16,187m2 to 40,468m2 with a new storage yard for loaded containers and will enable ‘off-peak loading’, which will help smooth peaks during the busiest periods, both on-site and via routes serving the port, according to a statement.
The project will begin in April and will be completed around six months later, resulting in one of the largest port-centric haulage depot services in the United Kingdom.
“This is a major commitment which is yet another highlight in the exciting evolution of the Port of Liverpool. It links perfectly with our strategy to extend our multi-modal connections, providing better links beyond our current hinterland,” commented David Huck, CEO of Peel Ports Group.
