The rail subsidiary of HHLA, Metrans is extending the HHLA Pure network across Europe, providing additional certified climate-neutral connections to its clients.
HHLA and Metrans offer the product HHLA Pure both climate-neutral processing and transport of their products and goods from the terminal facilities in the Port of Hamburg to the European hinterland.
Metrans will incorporate the seaports of Gdansk, Rijeka, Rotterdam, Trieste, and Wilhelmshaven into its CO2-free transport system starting 1 September. In addition, the inland ports in Duisburg, Germany, and Indija, Serbia, will be connected to the HHLA Pure network.
Also, Metrans has therefore more than doubled its route offering, providing about 340 routes over the HHLA Pure network. Metrans has already carried two-thirds of its total container capacity in a climate-friendly way using HHLA Pure during the last six months.
As part of HHLA Pure, all rail transit to and from Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Koper has been CO2-free since 2021.
TÜV verified and confirmed the inclusion of new relationships during this year’s audit. Metrans combines cutting-edge technology (electric locomotives, hybrid locomotives, contemporary lightweight wagons, and electric cranes) and renewable energy in Germany and Austria to reduce CO2 emissions from transportation and handling.
The remaining CO2 emissions per TEU are calculated for each relation and compensated by high-quality climate protection programs.
At its Hamburg container terminals, HHLA also provides customers with climate-neutral handling. TÜV NORD awarded Container Terminal Altenwerder its carbon neutrality certificate again in August 2023. The HHLA Group’s goal is to achieve climate-neutral results by 2040.
