Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA)’s intermodal company Metrans has pioneered Hungary’s first electrically powered truck for container transports.
With the launch of the new e-truck, the company is now fulfilling its strategy to enable a carbon-neutral form of combined road-rail transport of containerised goods on the Hungarian market.
The new e-truck which will be part of the fleet of WIN Capital, Metrans’ road transport partner, will be used primarily for the delivery of international freight cargo.
“Reducing CO2 emissions in intermodal transport is a top priority for Metrans,” pointed out Peter Kiss, CEO of the Metrans Group.
“The first domestic e-truck is a further proof point for our ambitions, along with our energy-efficient electric and hybrid locomotives or electric container cranes,” he added.
The prototype of the new e-truck was converted from a DAF XF Super Space Cab, and the conversion, including the new electric motor and battery packs, increased the vehicle’s curb weight by just 130 kilograms.
The new e-truck has also a range of around 200 kilometres at full load. Its onboard charger charges the batteries to 100% in five hours at 400 volts, 64 amps DC, and by using a fast charger, the charging time can be reduced to two hours.
Except for protecting the climate, the new truck also reduces noise pollution. While the electric motor does not idle, the start-up is quiet, according to a statement.
Metrans is the first company in Hungary to offer a 100% carbon-neutral and climate-friendly way of transporting goods.
