Metrans, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) specializing in rail transport, has recently completed a significant expansion of its hub terminal located in Dunajská Streda, Slovakia, adding approximately 50,000 m² to its operational area.
This expansion marks a strategic move by Metrans to enhance its service offerings, providing customers with increased storage capacity and improved transportation options at one of Central Europe’s pivotal intermodal hubs.
Responding to a surge in customer demand for storage and transport solutions in the region, Metrans’ expansion effort has augmented the terminal’s total area to 326,000 m², roughly equivalent to 45 soccer fields.
The newly acquired 50,000 square meters will predominantly serve as space for container repair and storage, featuring a newly constructed container washing facility to bolster maintenance operations.
Established in 1999, the Metrans terminal in Dunajská Streda has served as a vital nexus for intermodal transports linking Central and South-Eastern Europe. The company’s commitment to expanding its European network of intermodal connections and inland terminals underscores its dedication to fostering sustainable, rail-based transport solutions.
