The negative trend of the last months stopped in the port of Valencia, which saw its full container imports boosted by 14.5% and its full container exports increase slightly by 0.55% in May.
On the other hand, the Spanish port’s transit full containers decreased by 7.4%.
It is important to note that year-to-date (January-May 2022), the Port of Valencia has seen a 6.31% decline in its TEU volumes.
On an annual basis (June 2021 compared to May 2022), containers dedicated to foreign trade exceeded 1,037,000 units with a slight decrease of 0.53%, while the import containers increased by 15% to over 865,000 units.
The largest decline on an annual basis was recorded in transit full container loads with a decrease of 9.91%.
More specifically, 260,000 containers were diverted to other destinations due to congestion in the port of Valencia.
Meanwhile, China continues to be the port’s main partner in the container trade, followed by the United States and Turkey.
In May, total freight traffic in the port of Valencia increased by 7.8% thanks to the reinforcement of solid and liquid bulk cargo.
