Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and DP World have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aiming to start a strategic collaboration to explore opportunities that will enhance auto logistics capabilities at Jebel Ali Port in UAE, while simultaneously addressing the goal of reducing carbon emissions in the port and maritime applications across UAE and beyond.
The MoU was officially signed at the Al Majilis meeting room – Jafza 15, coinciding with COP 28 event. The signing ceremony featured key representatives, including MOL Group managing executive officer Ajay Singh responsible for overseeing the group’s business in the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East, and Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO of DP World GCC.
“DP World and MOL have a shared vision for sustainability and excellence in global maritime logistics and we look forward to strengthening our partnership through this MoU. With this agreement, we will combine our expertise to explore ways of enhancing the automotive supply chain and supporting decarbonization efforts for the sector in the UAE and the wider Middle East,” stated Abdullah bin Damithan.
Under this agreement, the companies will undertake comprehensive feasibility studies to explore business prospects including storage, improvement, and strategic distribution of fully assembled cars via Jebel Ali Port. The collaborative efforts in decarbonisation will focus on nurturing the regional market for clean fuels in maritime and port-centric applications, along with other related areas in the decarbonisation process.
Positioning environmental strategy as a cornerstone within its “BLUE ACTION 2035” management plan, MOL has set the target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, as outlined in the “MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2”.
