MPA Singapore conducts search and rescue operation for missing crew

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is coordinating a search and rescue operation with the Police Coast Guard (PCG) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force for a missing crew from a tugboat, Oshio.

The tugboat sank in the Eastern Anchorage, within Singapore’s port limits, at about 2:15 pm on 4 September, with two crew reported to be onboard at at the time of incident.

One 39-year-old male crew member who was earlier rescued by PCG was conveyed to the hospital where he subsequently passed on.

MPA has activated salvage divers to confirm the location of the sunken tug for salvage operations and is issuing navigational broadcasts for vessels to keep clear of the area.

MPA Singapore has announced that there is no oil pollution, caused by the incident.
