MPC Capital acquires 50% stake in BestShip

The investment and asset management firm MPC Capital has acquired a 50% stake in BestShip from the Norwegian maritime group Wilhelmsen.

This strategic move strengthens MPC Capital’s maritime services portfolio and supports its expansion into energy transition-focused initiatives.

BestShip specializes in comprehensive, data-driven evaluations of vessels and fleets, focusing on energy efficiency and emission reduction requirements. The company provides expert guidance on necessary conversions or retrofits, utilizing advanced digital tools and AI-powered analytics to optimize vessel performance. These insights help ensure compliance with evolving environmental regulations while enhancing operational efficiency.

Currently, BestShip serves approximately 450 vessels, offering its expertise to a diverse clientele, including shipowners, charterers, and ship managers.

Christian Rychly, Managing Director Shipping of MPC Capital, stated: “In a time defined by stringent regulation and the pursuit of operational excellence, maritime operators face numerous challenges in maintaining compliance while maximizing performance. The complexities of global shipping are compounded by the need to adhere to environmental regulations, monitor vessel performance, and adapt to technological advancements.”
