MSC’s container vessel suffered engine failure while it was sailing off Turkey on 10 October.
The 2,503 TEU MSC Malena was heading to Italy from Tekirdag, Turkey when it encountered problems off Canakkale around 11 am Turkish time, said Turkey’s General Directorate of Coastal Safety on its social media account.
The ship captain sought help from Dardanelles Strait Vessel Traffic Service, and two tugs towed MSC Malena to Canakkale, where it remains anchored.
“MSC Malena vessel had a minor engine incident and it is currently lying at berth while the situation is resolved,” said the Swiss/Italian container carrier.
MSC had bought the 2000-built MSC Malena (ex EM Athens) from Greek owner Euroseas for US$5 million in November 2020 and deployed the ship to its intra-Mediterranean service.
