MSC is a member of a consortium that is expected to buy hospital chain operator Mediclinic International.
The Swiss/Italian container carrier, along with South African investment holding company Remgro Ltd., seem to have agreed with Mediclinic for the takeover of the hospital firm for US$4.49 billion.
With a 50-50 joint venture with Remgro, MSC seems ready to expand its business activities and enters the healthcare industry.
Mediclinic is South Africa’s third biggest operator of hospitals and billionaire tycoon Johann Rupert’s Remgro already owns up to 45% of the company, according to Reuters.
