MSC has successfully transported a 390-tonne hydraulic hammer from Rotterdam to Singapore, marking the heaviest cargo the company has ever handled.
Measuring 25.7 meters in length, 4.55 meters in width, and 4.82 meters in height, the hammer arrived in Singapore in early August and will be used to install foundation poles for an offshore wind farm, supporting South Asia’s energy transition.
This complex operation required special equipment and precise planning, managed entirely by MSC’s Project Cargo team. From conducting an on-site pre-inspection to deciding on a detailed lifting and lashing plan that accounted for vessel stability and cargo placement, the team oversaw every aspect of the shipment.
Given its immense weight, the hammer was first transported to Rotterdam by barge and unloaded using some of the world’s most powerful floating cranes, including the 125-meter-tall Asian Hercules II.
