MSC Rosa M damages Mumbai crane

The 14,000TEU MSC Rosa M has hit and seriously damaged a crane at the DP World terminal in Nhava Sheva, NSIGT in Mumbai, while berthing earlier today, damaging the bow of the vessel, and buckling the crane, which from the images looks unstable.

Video footage of the accident has also recorded the panic of the controllers watching the collision in horror. The staff at Nhava Sheva can be heard shouting in Marathi, an Indian language, “touch,” as the sound of the vessel colliding with the crane can be heard in the background.

Then in a trembling voice the worker shouts, “God’s name, touch happened, get up, gone, all gone.. oi Amit, middle one, that side,” and then in panic, “Oh God (few times), it touched, its falling.”

According to local reports there is damage to the starboard bow of the vessel, but it is difficult to see this on the video footage.
