MSC ship suffers freight overboard as Pacific cargo losses stack up

At least six vessels have suffered stack collapses in the last three months, with five in the Pacific and one on the Atlantic, as another ship is reported to have lost 41 boxes just north of Hawaii on 29 January.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The Zodiac Maritime owned MSC Aries, a 14,300TEU ship, was en route to Ningbo in China when the losses occurred.

Claims consultancy WK Webster said, “It is not yet known whether any other containers remaining on board have been affected by way of container stack disturbance or collapses. We are seeking further details regarding the incident and will report again as soon as additional information is known.”

The latest casualty brings the container losses, in aggregate close to 3,000 over the three-month period, with more than 100 reported lost from the ONE Aquila in early November, ONE Apus lost around 1,900 containers a month later and Maersk Essen reportedly losing 750 containers last month, the Ever Liberal and the MSC Aries were smaller, but still significant losses.[/s2If]
