Mundra, India’s first port to handle over 16 MMT in single month

Mundra Port, the flagship of APSEZ, established another milestone in October by moving 16.1 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, the highest-ever volume handled by any port in India.

Mundra Port is the country’s largest port, with 102 MMT of cargo handled year to date (YTD), representing a 9% year-on-year increase. The port crossed 100 MMT in 210 days, breaking the previous record of 231 days set last year.

Mundra had a double-digit year-on-year increase in containers (+10%) and liquids and gas (+14%).

Mudra Port is well-connected to the hinterland, notably the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). All of the key rail lines and ICDs that connect Mundra port can now handle double-stack container trains. The port’s double stack co-efficient has significantly improved during the last few years. During the period under consideration, Mundra got the first train on the newly electrified route from Garhi Harsaru ICD, as well as double-stack services from ICD Dadri via WDFC. These ICDs supplement the already existent ICD Patli.

According to a statement, given the rate of cargo volume increase, Mundra Port expects to reach 200 MMT in FY25.
