Navis, the provider of operational technologies and services for the global shipping industry, has provided its long-time customer, Porto Itapoá, with a Berth Window Management solution to improve berth planning and efficiency.
The Brazilian port has invested in Navis’ Berth Window Management solution to reduce inefficiencies of verifying information from numerous disparate sources prior to confirming final berthing plans.
The port will, therefore, centralise, digitise and standardise its berth planning processes, according to a statement.
“In a month’s time, we were able to implement the solution which will not only remove much of the inherent uncertainty in planning the berth schedule of vessels but enable us to reduce time spent on these activities, maximise berth space, and safely and more efficiently process more vessels while lowering the total cost per move,” explained the Operations Manager of Porto Itapoá, Thiago Manoel dos Santos.
Navis’ solution includes digital enabling for berth window plan, berthing planning and execution decisions improvement, as well as proforma management for easier plan berthing windows.
In addition, the Navis platform compares and manages vessel port stays against vessel timestamps while allowing terminal operators to share the berthing plan with key customers, partners and authorities to enable self-service.
“Most vessel and berth planning in the maritime industry is still done manually, so digitising a top Latin American port allowed the terminal to eliminate time-consuming tasks and gain visibility into real-time information and data,” stated Vice President of Product Management at Navis, Carlos Lopez Barbera.
The 10-year old Porto Itapoá is one of the largest port terminals in Brasil and considered one of the most agile terminals in Latin America, linking the supply chains of the country with the world.
