The service operator Newport Management will conduct a new barge feeder service connecting Santa Fe Port with the TecPlata terminal of La Plata Port, which will link Argentina with Brasil and Asia.
In particular, the service linking the Argentinean Port of Santa Fe to the International Container Terminal Services Inc.’s (ICTSI) Argentine subsidiary, TecPlata, would make a minimum of two calls per month using 500TEU barge named Bagual and assembled with the tug named Papu Viento.
When destined to TecPlata, cargoes will be transferred to Brasil by Log-in existing regional shipping network, called Atlántico Sul Service, which has been calling in the Argentine container terminal since April 2019 and operates on the East Coast of South America (ECSA) route to the main ports of Brasil, Rio Grande, Itajai, Santos, Salvador, Suape and Pecem – Fortaleza, according to ICTSI’s spokesperson.
As for containers destined for Asia, they will then be transshipped from TecPlata to the Port of Santos in São Paulo, and from there, to the ports of Qingdao, Shanghai, Yantian, Ningbo and Xiamen in China, through a service which is already being operated by the Taiwanese carrier Evergreen, since 2020.
ICTSI’s representative told Container News that TecPlata and Santa Fe Port have signed an agreement establishing the service with the duration of the main contract having a duration of 2+1 years.
The collaboration for this new service will benefit the stakeholders and operators involved as it will offer reduced costs to exporting companies and logistics operators in the region by taking advantage of the favourable tariff of TecPlata, according to ICTSI.
