Two Mitsui hybrid rubber-tired gantries (RTG), the first in Mindanao, Philippines were received by Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT), owned by International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI).
“The hybrid RTGs make our operations more efficient and at the same time more environment friendly because of the reduced emissions, allowing us to hit both our productivity and sustainability targets,” commented Aurelio Garcia, MCT general manager.
With these deliveries, MCT’s RTG fleet is now expanding to six units, improving the yard’s productivity and the overall performance of the terminal. The Mitsui hybrids are powered by a combination of a lithium-ion battery and a smaller diesel engine, unlike conventional RTGs that run 100% on fossil fuels, which makes them more eco-friendly.

Aurelio Garcia said the terminal will also commission additional equipment to meet expanding capacity requirements.
MCT is expecting to receive a new side lifter in the coming months, while it has also purchased a mobile port crane that will arrive by the first half of 2023.
The new port crane will augment MCT’s two quay cranes and enable the simultaneous handling of two longer vessels, according to a statement.
The purchase of new equipment comes after the extension of the 100-meter anchorage and the installation of dolphin mooring and inland bollards back in 2020.
