Wärtsilä will provide Cargo Handling Systems for five new huge LPG carrier vessels being built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) yard in South Korea. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in the third quarter of 2023.
Solvang, a Norwegian ship owner, contracted for the ships in a joint venture with Gunvor Group Ltd in Geneva. The VLGCs are Panamax-sized vessels that represent the next generation of eco-vessels.
The cargo-carrying capacity of the vessels will be 88,000 m³. The Wärtsilä equipment is planned to be delivered to the yard in early 2025, with the first ship expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.
