Cargotec’s Board of Directors has appointed Sami Niiranen as the company’s next President of Kalmar, effective May 2024 at the latest, with Cargotec’s present President and CEO Casimir Lindholm remaining in his interim position.
Sami Niiranen will also join the Cargotec Leadership team.
Sami Niiranen will be suggested as President and CEO of the proposed standalone Kalmar as part of the planned separation of Kalmar via partial demerger, announced on 27 April 2023.
Niiranen has over 20 years of global corporate leadership experience. Most recently, he led the Underground division of Epiroc. Before that, he held many leadership roles for more than ten years.

In order to assist in listing readiness preparations, the Board decided in August to form a new Demerger Committee to manage listing readiness and corporate governance concerns for the possible standalone Kalmar.
The Board has recently decided that Jaakko Eskola will serve as chair of The Demerger Committee. Jaakko Eskola, Teresa Kemppi-Vasama, and Tapio Kolunsarka will continue to serve on the Demerger Committee. The partial demerger will be planned during 2023, with the prospective standalone listing of Kalmar on Nasdaq Helsinki taking place in 2024 if carried out.
