Noordkasteel bridge out of service after barge collision in Antwerp

On 4 March, an inland barge coming out of the Fruit Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium collided with the Noordkasteel bridge, causing the bridge to remain in a closed position.

While there are no reported injuries, the bridge cannot be opened, and as a result, all marine traffic sailing via the bridge has been halted.

According to Maersk’s advisory, port authorities are currently inspecting the bridge for potential damage, while the duration of the situation and its impact on cargo movement to and from the Fruit Terminal remain unclear.
