Following the outbreak of fire on the 8,500TEU container vessel Northern Jupiter operated by ONE and owned by Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt, a subsidiary of V Group, the owner has declared general average in a bid to share the cost of the accident.
The vessel’s engine caught fire while the ship was en route to Port Klang from Singapore on 4 January. After the fire was extinguished a class survey was conducted, and a towage plan submitted to Malaysia Maritime Authorities on 8 January. The vessel finally arrived in Singapore on 14 January and general average was declared on 17 January.
