NWSA handles 226,600 TEUs in February

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), a shipping alliance between the ports of Tacoma and Seattle in the United States, reported that February container volumes reached 226,603 TEUs, translating to a marginal growth of 0.4% over the same month last year.

Year-to-date volume comparisons declined 0.2% YTD to 437,887 TEUs, with full imports increasing slightly and full exports growing 14.2%, according to NWSA’s statement.

Additionally, NWSA noted that domestic container volume decreased 0.6% YTD 2024 compared to YTD 2023, while Alaska volumes increased 1%, and Hawaii volumes decreased 7.9%.

Meanwhile, total breakbulk volume increased by 23.1%, reaching 78,555 metric tons YTD and auto volumes reached 58,185 units, experiencing a 20.6% increase.

“The sustained consumer demand for automobiles continues to drive robust volume growth,” said an NWSA spokesperson.
