NWSA handles over 270,000 TEUs in October

Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reported its international container volumes increased by 1.7% in October compared to the same month last year.

Full international imports grew significantly, rising 6.9%—marking the eighth consecutive month of growth. However, full international exports dropped sharply by 13.4%. Total container volume, including both international and domestic, reached 273,355 TEUs, translating to a slight decline of 0.5% compared to October 2023.

Year-to-date (YTD) figures show a robust growth of 10.7%, with NWSA volumes reaching 2,745,775 TEUs. Full imports surged by 17.7%, and full exports saw an 8% increase.

Furthermore, domestic container volumes decreased slightly, down 1.3% YTD compared to 2023. Regional declines included a 0.1% drop in Alaska volumes and a more substantial 7.6% decrease in Hawaii volumes.

In the auto sector, NWSA recorded volumes of 293,580 units, reflecting a 5.1% rise YTD. Meanwhile, total breakbulk cargo volumes fell by 11.9%, amounting to 344,621 metric tons YTD.
