The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) announced that the total volume has risen by 8.2% since the start of the year, reaching 1,235,446 TEUs, compared to the same period last year.
Full imports have seen a 12.5% increase, while full exports have grown by 20.8%.
Year-to-date through May 2024, NWSA’s total international imports amounted to 493,536 TEUs, comprising 455,427 TEUs of full containers and 38,109 TEUs of empty containers. Full international imports have surged by 32.5%, contributing to a 30.5% increase in total international volumes.
Also, container volumes for May totalled 277,388 TEUs, marking a 20.6% increase from the same month in 2023.
On the export side, the port handled a total of 453,056 TEUs, with 262,303 TEUs in full containers and 190,753 TEUs in empty containers. In addition, full international exports have maintained growth for nine consecutive months, rising by 20.8% compared to May 2023.
In other cargo categories, the total breakbulk volume has increased by 1.6%, reaching 197,683 metric tons year-to-date and the auto volumes have reached 143,032 units, showing an 8.3% increase year-to-date.
