NWSA reports lower TEU volumes

NorthWest Seaport Alliance’s total container volume fell 27.2% to 240,979 TEUs in March, with full imports dropping 37.2% as a result of persistent mediocre demand and uncertainties surrounding the PMA-ILWU contract discussions.

At the same time, full exports decreased by 5.4%, although volumes have been climbing month after month, with March complete exports up 13.2% over February. On the other side, empty imports surged in March as ocean carriers moved equipment to the terminal in preparation for forthcoming agricultural exports.

For the first three months of the year, NWSA reported that its total TEUs fell 24.6% year-on-year to 679,820 TEUs, with total imports and exports down 33.9% and 1.2%, respectively.
