The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), comprising the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, has seen a year-on-year decline of 5.8% in container throughput during January, completing 272,281 TEU.
Full exports decreased by 36% and full imports represented a margin dip of 0.9% year-on-year. In the meantime, total exports and imports saw decreases of 12.3%, and 1%, respectively.
Moreover, NWSA’s domestic volumes declined 2.3% in January compared to the same month of the previous year.
The NWSA claimed that overall volumes have been impacted by vessel call omissions, while full exports continue to be affected by a shortage of equipment and vessel capacity due to vessel voids.
However, the NWSA expects to see the return of services that were temporarily suspended or called less frequently due to congestion.
