Oakland port’s Executive Director becomes President of CAPA

Port of Oakland Executive Director, Danny Wan has been selected as the new President of the California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA), which represents 14 deepwater ports and sets public policy objectives that are advanced with local, state and federal government.

Danny Wan is the new President of the California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA).

Wan has been the Port of Oakland’s Executive Director since 2019, while in the meantime he also manages the airport of Oakland.

Wan commented, “I’m honoured to represent California ports because of the significant role they play in supporting the state and national economies. I hope to continue the association’s work in making our ports sustainable and efficient.”

Wan takes on the new role at a critical time when CAPA, which is consisted of 11 US port authorities, must advocate important investments into transportation and supply chain infrastructure for the decongestion of California ports which are passing through an unprecedented blockage, causing global supply chain disruptions.

Meanwhile, maritime interests are seeking government help to modernise ports and streamline regulations governing port operations, while they’re also working closely with regulators to curb emissions related to ships and cargo-handling equipment.

Wan has led Oakland’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, authorising extraordinary measures that included vaccine availability for port workers and free Covid-19 testing at Oakland International Airport, according to a statement.
