OCI Global successfully bunkered the world’s first green methanol-fuelled container ship with OCI HyFuels ISCC-certified green methanol.
OCI Global said the bunkering operation marks the start of the vessel’s maiden voyage from Ulsan to the port of Copenhagen in Denmark, bunkering in Singapore, Egypt, and Rotterdam en route.
The operation comes just over a week after the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO’s) announcement about its revised strategy for the shipping industry to reach net zero by or around 2050.
“The journey will be a catalyst for future green methanol bunkering and will see the ship re-fuelled with OCI Hyfuels’ green methanol at key global ports, positioning OCI as the first commercial bunker operator of green methanol at global scale,” commented the company.
