The British-flagged general cargo ship Verity collided with the Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier Polesie at roughly 03:00 UTC on 24 October in German Bight, about 16 nautical miles north of Langeoog island in the East Frisian Islands.
After the two cargo ships collided off the coast of Germany, a dead body was found and two people were saved, as the British vessel sank. Four out of seven crew members of the 91-meter ship Verity are still missing. According to AP’s report, German authorities halted their search for the four crew members missing on Wednesday (25 October).
Verity was sailing from Bremen in Germany to the port of Immingham in the United Kingdom.
The larger freighter involved in the collision, Polesie, which had 22 people on board and was sailing from Hamburg, Germany to La Coruna, Spain, reached the German port of Cuxhaven under its own steam.
The reason for the accident is not known yet.
