On Friday, July 20, 2018, the M/V One Stork, a 14,026 TEU Ultra Large Container Ship (ULCS), docked at Global Container Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey on its maiden voyage. Built at the Kure shipyard in Japan and launched June 12, the Japanese flagged vessel called ports in China and Southeast Asia, and then sailed to the Port of New York and New Jersey via the Suez Canal. The One Stork is one of 12 ships in the EC4 service, operated by The Alliance partners of Hapag Lloyd, Yang Ming Lines and the One, and will become the first service to employ all 14,000 TEU class vessels, calling Global as first port of call each week. Over the next several months, sister ships of the One will complete sea trials and rotate into the EC4 service.
Alex Heil, Chief Economist of the Port Authority, presented a plaque commemorating the maiden voyage to Captain Ranish Shenoy, Master of the One Stork. He was joined by Nobuo Ishida, the President of the ONE in North America, and Beth Rooney, Assistant Director of the Port Department. A number of the ONE’s customers were on board for the ceremony, which included logistics executives from BASF, BJ’S Wholesale, SIMS Recycling, Global Brands Group and the Gemini Shipper Group. The event was organized by staff from Business Development and Industry Relations in the Port Department, along with the commercial department of the ONE, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
