OOCL starts multimodal China-US service

OOCL Logistics and OOCL Liner Services have announced the launch of a new multi-modal container service from China to the US East Coast, with the vision to meet customer demand by offering an alternative shipment.

Starting with the “Chang An” China-Europe block train service from Xian to Kaliningrad of Russia, then with the onward feeder to Bremerhaven, the operation is implemented with OOCL ocean sailings from the German town to various ports on the US East Coast.

This intermodal service, which aims to avoid the current high levels of traffic for routes to the US West Coast and through the Panama Canal, is the first of its kind to be operated by an ocean carrier, connecting the two continents by using the Asia-Europe Land Bridge and the Atlantic Ocean.
