The 9,000TEU MV Czech, operated by Hapag-Lloyd, but owned by Turkey-based Czech Maritime, has suffered engine failure as the vessel entered Ningbo Port, according to the German carrier.
The vessel operates on the Pacific South Loop (PS6), “experienced an engine issue upon completion of berthing in Ningbo during voyage 101E,” the line reported.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]“We have been advised that repair work continues. The vessel is tentatively due to depart Ningbo on 10 May 2021. This is subject to change. A recovery sailing schedule will be provided as soon as possible,” a customer advisory note said.
The incident with the MV Czech followed reports that the CMA CGM subsidiary APL had seen its ship, the 7,830TEU President Eisenhower, had suffered an engine room fire on leaving the Port of Los Angeles container terminal on 28 April.
The fire was reported to have been extinguished by the crew, said insurance advisers WK Webster, however, the ship was incapacitated and was taken under tow by tugs to back to the Californian port for inspection.
The vessel had been due to sail for Japan, South Korea and China on the Eagle Express 1, EX1, service, but AIS data showed the vessel was still in Los Angeles as of 4 May.
