Panamax vessel suffers container collapse off Alexandria, Egypt

The 2000-built container ship Wadi AlRayan suffered a container collapse off the Port of Alexandria in Egypt on 8 December, due to heavy storms.

Several containers of the 3,013TEU vessel have been lost at sea and others have been damaged, but the exact number of the lost/damaged boxes has not been identified.

Wadi AlRayan remains at the Port of Alexandria, where it anchored after the accident on 10 December, according to the Maritime Bulletin’s report.

Container News has asked a comment from the Egyptian ship owner, National Navigation Company, but there is no response at the time of writing.
