Peab comissioned to build new container port in Sweden

Swedish forest products company, SCA Logistics has commissioned Peab, an infrastructure construction company, to build a new container port adjacent to Tunadal Port in Sundsvall, Sweden.

The new box port, which is expected to support the growing demand for paper pulp and sawn wood products, will have a 100,000TEU capacity.

According to the contract, which is worth approximately US$29.3 million, a new dock will also be built which entails massive groundwork and other preliminary works to develop the terminal.

Additionally, the harbour basin will be dredged, so deeper ships can enter the port and the shipping lane, while the project also includes extensive electrical, water and water waste work.

Construction works are planned to begin after the summer and are expected to be completed in the fall of 2023. The project will be registered in the second quarter of 2021.

The new container port will be adjacent to the new Sundsvall Logistics Park in Tunadal Port, which will be a transportation hub where roads, the railway and shipping come together to provide business with access to efficient and sustainable transportation to and from Sundsvall.

“We look forward to further developing yet another part of Sundsvall Logistics Park by building the new container port together with SCA,” said Jörgen Eriksson, region manager at Peab.
