Peel Ports Group has enhanced its global container operations through the appointment of Marcus Connolly as the new strategic commercial director.
Bringing over 25 years of experience in international container shipping and logistics, Marcus Connolly has previously held positions at A.P. Moller–Maersk and NYSHEX.
Based at the Port of Liverpool, Connolly will lead efforts in developing transformative growth opportunities through strategic partnerships across the entire group. His responsibilities also include further cultivating strong ties with major shipping lines. Marcus Connolly will play a crucial role in capitalising on Peel Ports’ strategic position in the United Kingdom and Ireland supply chains, contributing to the creation of more sustainable and reliable supply chain solutions.
Furthermore, the location of the Port of Liverpool, connecting to the North of England, Scotland, the Midlands, Ireland, and Scotland through the Irish Sea, presents important opportunities for reducing supply chain costs and emissions, enhancing landside asset utilisation and profitability, and minimising landside congestion.
David Huck, chief operating officer at Peel Ports Group, expressed confidence in Connolly’s unparalleled industry experience, emphasisng his knowledge and results-driven approach as integral to strengthening the group’s international operations.
“More effective sea transport and shipping routes will offer endless opportunities for vast improvements for cargo owners, including a reduction of cost, carbon and congestion, with clear benefits. Currently, 90% of deep-sea containerised cargo comes into southern UK ports, yet 60% of these are destined for the North. Quite simply, this makes very little sense. Marcus will use his new position to help importers better leverage the Port of Liverpool’s proximity to major distribution centres in the North, improving operational efficiencies across the supply chain,” stated David Huck.
