Piraeus Port increases its capacity

Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) has announced several investments to upgrade the infrastructure of Pier I of the Port of Piraeus and increase its capacity by 30% to 1.3 million TEU per year.

The PPA has ordered five electric powered rubber tyred gantry cranes (E-RTG), which will be installed at Pier I. The new E-RTGs are more environmentally friendly than conventional cranes, according to the port authority, and their use will improve the environmental footprint of the Greek port.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]In addition, in order to further strengthen the business operation of Pier I, the port authority will have supplied and installed one new super-post Panamax crane, which can handle 20,000TEU mega container vessels by the summer.

Furthermore, the project to repair pavements and rails for rail mounted gantry cranes, in the framework of the Mandatory Investment 02 with the object the upgrade of Pier I, to ensure the smooth and modern operation of the container terminal will also be completed by the upcoming summer.
