Pirates arrested near Mongla port

Heavy load carrier Blue Marlin came under attack by pirates near Mongla port on Tuesday (12 July) at noon.

A group of pirates equipped with weapons reached the ship which was anchored at the Bay of Bengal.

The ship personnel informed the port authority about the attempt by the pirates. According to information, the Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel reached the spot and approached the pirates’ group who fled immediately.

The Coast Guard, later, checked the close circuit camera footage of the vessel and three groups of the law enforcing agency raided the Koikhali area of the Sundarbans on Thursday (14 July) night.

From the spot, they arrested seven members of the pirates’ group with various sharp weapons in their position along with the vessel they used in the attempt to loot the foreign ship.

A case is filed against the pirates.
